About this Collection
This collection represents pieces from my trip to Europe that not only demonstrate composition but come with stories and meaning. The trip started in Copenhagen where I was studying abroad, but elapsed into a full length trip full of adventure and friends.
Copenhagen
Syttende mai also known as Constitution day, is celebrated when Norway became an independent kingdom in an attempt to avoid being ceded to Sweden after Denmark–Norway's devastating defeat in the Napoleonic Wars. The Norwegians will often celebrate with big parades with everyone dressed up in their special outfit (bunad).
(Photo was taken in Copenhagen)
Langebrogade, part of the Christiana district, is where I lived during my stay in Copenhagen. It was a shared apartment with local Danish students, with shared kitchen, bathroom and living room. This picture was taken on the balcony, on which was often used to share a glass of wine or a cigarette.
Berlin
Germany is well known for production of energy from wind turbines. I try and capture the size and scale of a 1.3MW, 80m tall wind turbine, which I was able to climb to the top of. Even with my camera it is very hard to feel the sheer scale of a "tiny" wind turbine.
Normally, it is impossible to climb up wind turbines, it either requires a harness, allows one person at a time or simply is prohibited due to safety concerns. This turbine was a privately owned turbine (soon to be replaced by a more efficient one), with the owner allowing us to climb it through the inside.
Austrian Twins
Seven weeks before traveling to Berlin, when I was staying at a hostel in Copenhagen I met Maximilian. We met getting breakfast with nothing planned, both enjoyers of photography, biking and beer. Seven weeks later, I meet up in Berlin with him and his identical twin to spend an amazing weekend full of exploration, photography and most importantly beer.
On a whim we visited the special Olympics, and took a train 2 hours out to the countryside in order to catch an amazing sunset while drinking some beers we picked up from the Spätis. I tried the Radler, a famous Austrian citrus sports beer.
Palma de Mallorca
Part of any European trip must include a spontaneous trip to another country. Me and the students from my floor found a 100$ round trip to Palma, how could you pass that up. A week later we found ourselves exploring the beautifully designed city of Palma, full of snaking alley ways full of pastel colors and huge churches.
Palma de Mallorca is known as a tourist filled party island, which is not unfounded, it however, is filled with great churches and wonderful Spanish seafood.
