Lomochrome Petaillant Purple

About this Collection

This collection is my introduction into experimental film stocks. After hearing about Lomography's "Petaillant Purple" stock, which boasts psychedelic purple hues and color-shifting madness, with a sparkling surprise on some frames, I knew I had to see what sort of atmosphere it would create, and it did not disappoint. Below are the highlights of this film stock.

Update 2/2025, having shot my second roll of this film, it still scratches the same itch, creating dreamlike purple and turquoise hues. This updated collection will now include some of the new shots that turned out particularly as I had envisioned. This time I shot solely on my Olympus XA, which might create some interesting contrasts in quality.

(Nerd P.S.) While both of these rolls where scanned on the same scanner, I used Negative Lab Pro of the inversion and color correction, so the saturation and style may look different for better or worse.

Acadia National Park

While examining the sample photo's from the stock, it displayed that greens would turn purple and blues would turn turquoise. With my planned trip to Acadia, ME, a stunning national park, it would be a waste to not bring the roll to test it out. Thankfully, the two first days were quite sunny, with plenty of views leading to some of the following stunning photos:

Cliff Diving

As part of the NUHOC tradition in Acadia, it was customary to jump off a 15-20-foot cliff. The height of the cliff wasn't the scary part of jumping; the scary part was clearing a tree underneath. From above it always looks like your feet will clip the tree; however with a bit of forward momentum it is easily cleared. Unlike others, it took me close to ten minutes to psyche myself up to jump. The water was cold, but it was worth it.

Bar harbor

In the evening, approaching a tad past 1900, the tide in bar harbor recedes. It recedes far enough that a passage way forms and allowed us to cross onto the island. Not only is the walk on the rocks through the harbor towards the island stunning, but the views of Bar harbor and the remains of the Acadia landscape are beautiful.

Porchfest Fenway

With only a few shots left on my camera, I made it down to Trillium/501 Park area to watch Jonathan, Taryn and Archie's band play. I wasn't sure what sort of vibe the pictures would give off when originally shooting. After seeing it now, It perfectly encapsulates the feeling of a band playing on a field on a warm summer day. I am incredibly happy with the tones of this stock of film especially for capturing scenes during the summer.

Grizzly PeakĀ

Grizzly Peak is a summit in the Berkeley Hills above Berkeley, California. The peak is located on the border between Alameda and Contra Costa counties, within the boundaries of Tilden Regional Park, and directly behind the University of California, Berkeley campus.

The peak was named for the California grizzly bear which inhabited the local area until the late 1800s. The last sighting locally was by a man who was reportedly killed by a grizzly in Strawberry Canyon below Grizzly Peak in the 1860s - Wikipedia

Grizzly Peak is one of my favorite places to bike to, and to bring other people. Not only is the view stunning, but the ride up through the Tilden hills is just as incredible. Passing Oaks, redwoods and other conifers on a winding road all the way up to the top. Amazing people have setup lookouts for passerby's to enjoy the view of the bay.
